Workmanship on joints and depth. Not a promise that a tree stops growing. Read it before you sign.
Root Barrier Repair & Replacement in Houston is a local job: the soil, the trees, and the houses on those streets decide the trench. Inside the Loop, the trees were planted when the sidewalks were still young. Live oaks in the Heights and Montrose now sit in parkway strips two feet wide. Their flare is already over the walk. We install vertical HDPE along those walks, along bungalow slabs, and along the old cast-iron laterals that still serve a lot of 77007 and 77008.
Heights walks heave in the same pattern: a water oak at the curb, a 4-inch lateral under the parkway, and a slab that was never isolated from the root plate. Memorial lots run the opposite problem — specimen live oaks the owner will not cut, sitting 8 to 12 feet from a limestone walk. Nearby landmarks: Buffalo Bayou, the Heights hike-and-bike, River Oaks boulevard oaks, Memorial Park edge lots.
Root Barrier Repair & Replacement in Houston
Old barrier in Houston fails at the joints, at the top edge, and when someone used thin recycled sheet. We pull what is done, trench to the depth the plate is using now, and set new HDPE. We do not “patch” a 12-inch edging and call it a repair.
2000s landscape liners are in the ground all over First Colony and Memorial. They are brittle. Roots went over or through. Replacement is a new trench, not a staple.
Bamboo jobs fail when the lip was buried in mulch. We reset the lip and close the loop.
If the original run was in the wrong place — too close to the flare, too far from the walk — we move it. Repeating a bad line is how you pay twice.
Soil, trees, and houses on this side of town
Soil. Houston Black clay and Beaumont clay that shrinks in drought and swells after Gulf storms If the panel sits in a gap after the clay shrinks, roots use the gap. We pack the trench in layers.
Trees. southern live oak, water oak, pecan, Chinese tallow, crape myrtle A Memorial live oak is not a Pasadena hackberry. We set depth to the roots we uncover, not to a catalog number.
Houses. 1920s bungalows inside the Loop, 1950s brick ranches, and post-Harvey rebuilt slabs lifted sidewalks, cast-iron sewer laterals, and slab-edge roots hunting irrigation

Questions we get
Can you reuse old panel?
If it is still flexible, jointed, and deep enough — sometimes. Gulf-sun brittle sheet is trash.
Who installed the old one?
Often a landscaper with edging. We are not here to argue with them. We are here to isolate the tree.
Warranty on your work?
We warranty our joints and our depth against workmanship. We cannot warranty a tree into not growing. Details are on the quote.

- Heights cast-iron laterals and the parkway water oak — 77008 still has iron. The oak finds the joint. A plumber cuts. The barrier is how you stop paying for the same cut.
- Baytown’s Goose Creek walks are city-old — Not an HOA parkway. City restoration rules. Hackberry and tallow, not a branded live oak.
- Dickinson bayou lots stay wet — Town walks and water-seeking roots. Coastal-spec panel.
- Bald cypress knees are not a sidewalk-panel job — Wet lots in Pearland and Towne Lake. Drain the tree side or you built a dam.
- Pine windthrow is an arborist call first — A leaning Kingwood pine is not a barrier problem. A healthy pine at a slab still can be.
